Fairy fort / ringfort

Why this matters

A local fairy fort (ringfort/rath); wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

Some 200m E of a ringfort (GA060-135----). Very poorly preserved oval rath (N-S 34.5m, E-W 21.2m) defined by a bank at NE, and elsewhere by a scarp. Quarrying has encroached upon the monument at N, and a field bank surrounds it from SW through N to SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
