This blue commemorative plaque records: Lion and Unicorn staircase built in 1690 in the outer quadrangle of the old College on the High Street, it was moved to its present site in 1872. At its upper level it originally turned to the right but its direction was changed in 1929 when the chapel was built.
The Lion and Unicorn Staircase, originally constructed in 1690 within Oxford's old College on High Street, exemplifies late 17th-century architectural craftsmanship and has been a significant feature of the college's evolving layout, moved to its current location in 1872 and altered in 1929 with the chapel's construction.
