Why this matters

Linginis is a coastal rock feature or small headland composed of metamorphic rocks, typical of the Lewisian Gneiss complex, which dates back to the Precambrian era, around 3 billion to 1.2 billion years ago. These ancient rocks formed through high-pressure and high-temperature deformation of earlier crustal material and are some of the oldest in the British Isles, making the site geologically significant.
