Lock, opened 1800, with limestone ashlar retaining walls having cut-granite stringcourses below benchmark-inscribed cut-granite rounded coping supporting timber double gates.

A lock representing an important component of the civil engineering heritage of County Kildare: meanwhile, a benchmark remains of additional interest for the connections with cartography and the preparation of maps by the Ordnance Survey (established 1824).
