LARGE RATH in Lisalbanagh

LARGE RATH

What is recorded here

Lisalbanagh in County Derry holds a large rath, an earthwork so old it predates every written history of the region. The distinction between a farmyard boundary and a fortress wall dissolves when moss swallows the stone and rain erodes the angle. A rath of that size demands more than a household; it demands a hierarchy, a treasury, a reason for fear. The ground still carries the shape of that demand even when every name and event has vanished into the green dark.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as LARGE RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
