What is recorded here

Lanton Tower is a 16th-century tower house in the Scottish Borders, about two miles northwest of Jedburgh, with a rectangular plan, three storeys, a garret, a vaulted basement, and two gun-loops in the west wall. In 1513 it was sacked, and by 1627 it belonged to the Cranstons before passing to Douglas of Cavers. The upper part was later altered, many windows were enlarged, a modern mansion was attached, and the tower was restored in 1989. It may have had an L-plan before alteration, and it still stands as a compact medieval stronghold shaped by border violence, ownership change, and later domestic reinvention.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Lanton as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
