Lainshaw House stands above the Annick Water in East Ayrshire, a stone mansion built around 1779 that still contains part of a much older castle. Kings, stewards and noble families passed the long strip of woodland back and forth for centuries, treating it as a prize rather than a ordinary home. The house has survived feuds, inheritances and sudden deaths to become flats today, keeping the old castle bones inside its newer walls.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Lainshaw House as Country House (period Unassigned), Tower House (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Lainshaw House is a medieval tower house in Scotland, possibly dating to the 15th or 16th century, and is remembered as a historic example of a defensive country residence associated with the region's landed gentry. Its significance lies in its architectural survival and potential links to local noble or aristocratic families of the period.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
