Knockdaw Castle stands in South Ayrshire as a medieval ruin, its stones worn by centuries of wind and rain. The exact location is known, yet the interior remains closed to casual curiosity. What lives inside that shell is no longer certain, only suggested by the shape of what is left behind.

Knockdaw Castle was built in the 13th century by the MacHeth (or MacHeath) family, a powerful clan in the region during the medieval period. It is remembered as a strategic stronghold in the Scottish Highlands and as a site associated with the historical rivalry between the MacHeths and the neighboring Clan Mackintosh.
