Kirkton is a small area in the north-west of Livingston where the Killandean burn still flows beside gardens saved from the demolished Charlesfield House estate. The land has belonged to ministers, East India officers, surgeons and painters before becoming Scotland's first designed high-technology industrial park. Companies came and went along Simpson Parkway, leaving buildings that now house a private medical hospital and other uses. The old estate, the burn and the changing purpose of the place remain visible in the layout of Kirkton.
