'kirk of Cleaton'

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records 'kirk of Cleaton' as Broch (iron Age)(possible), Chapel (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Linked to Saint Cleaton, a 7th-century Christian missionary, the site is traditionally associated with healing rituals and pilgrimages, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin. Local folklore suggests that the holy well near the kirk was believed to have curative properties, with offerings of coins and ribbons left by visitors as tokens of gratitude.
