Kinnoull Castle vanished from the Tay bank at Barnhill, leaving behind a garden where water still moves through soil that once held stone walls. The Hay family owned the land before Charles I made Sir George Hay Earl of Kinnoull in 1633, and the castle may have been their proud local mark rather than a distant royal showpiece. Ducks now patrol the nearby Gannochy pond while swans glide past places where men bowled, cricketed and argued about life. The castle is gone, but Kinnoull keeps doing what castles do: it makes ordinary people feel the weight of time.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Kinnoull Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Kinnoull Castle was built by the Keith family in the 14th century and later held by the Drummonds. It is remembered as a significant stronghold in Perth and Kinross, reflecting the strategic and feudal history of medieval Scotland.
