Kinbeachie Castle stood in Ross and CromartY as a medieval seat for the Urquharts until demolition in 1959 erased its last visible wall. A lintel bearing 1546 and the Mackenzie coat of arms survived the destruction, yet vanished from the Old Library after 1961, defeating later attempts to recover it. The castle still occupies memory through that lost stone and the chamber it once framed.
