Dean Castle rises beside Dean Road in Kilmarnock, a 19th-century tower built for spectacle rather than defence. Its stones may have shadowed Palace Range birds or watched carts pass on Dean Road, but no surviving detail confirms that purpose. The tower still stands inside Dean Country Park, waiting for someone to remember whether it was a home, a folly or a gift.

Dean Castle was built in the 19th century as a private residence for the Montgomerie family, who were prominent landowners in the Kilmarnock area. It is remembered as a notable example of Scottish Gothic Revival architecture and as a central feature of Dean Country Park.
