St Mochua, also known as Mochua of Ross, was an Irish monk and hermit associated with early Christian sites in the 7th century; while primarily linked to County Kerry in Ireland, his cult and chapels spread to parts of Scotland, often associated with healing wells and pilgrimage traditions. The chapel at Kilmaho may have been connected to local traditions of prayer and healing, typical of early Christian holy sites in the British Isles.
