Killeen Burial Ground in County Mayo, Ireland is a children's burial ground, a rare and heartbreaking distinction that suggests entire families or generations were lost young. The name Killeen itself carries a whisper of smallness and tenderness, as if the land were named for the very ones it holds. Whatever disease, famine or violence emptied that place of children, the earth still keeps them separate from adult graves, marking a tragedy so profound it needed its own ground.
