Kildonan Castle rose in the 13th century as a MacDonald stronghold, its thick walls guarding the Firth of Clyde until English fire destroyed it in 1558. The ruin still stands above a rare sandy beach, where vaulted chambers and gun loops hint at the turbulent lives hidden inside. What remains is not a forgotten shell but a witnessed place, holding the shape of every hand that built, defended, or abandoned it.
