Kilcolman Fort

Kilcolman Fort is an early medieval ringfort on a Cork hillside, its trapezoidal earthworks still framing the Bandon river below. A metre-wide gap in the eastern bank preserves the entrance, while local tradition spoken by residents and written down by Seán P. Ó Ríordáin in 1932 claims two souterrain mouths hidden inside. That suggestion fits the place: a home built to drain, defend and disappear beneath the ground when danger came.
