Kilbrickan Church (in ruins)

Close to seashore on W side of the Rosmuc peninsula. Known locally as Cill Bhriocáin, this is a small, probably late medieval, church (E-W; L 4.9m, Wth 3.2m). There is a doorway with a roughly dressed segmented arch in S wall and a flat-headed window in E gable. There are aumbries in E and W gables. Situated in an overgrown graveyard which also contains a holy well (GA065-007003-) and the rectangular foundations of a second building (E-W; L 12.8m, Wth 4.8m); possibly a priest's house. Kilbrickan Church, a small likely late medieval structure oriented east-west, was probably built by a local monastic or parish community. Its ruined remains, including a segmented-arch doorway, reflect a simple ecclesiastical style typical of the period, and it may have been dedicated to Saint Breacán, as suggested by the Irish name Cill Bhreacáin.
