Kevin O'Higgins

Kevin O'Higgins was born in Stradbally, County Laois, on 7 June 1892, the youngest of sixteen children in a house already crowded with voices, opinions and life. He grew up beneath the shadow of his mother’s family, especially Timothy Daniel Sullivan, whose political fire likely shaped the boy before Kevin ever spoke for himself. What began as a large, noisy household in a small Irish town helped produce one of the most controversial leaders of the new Free State.
