Keltie Castle

Settling Tank (late 19th Century)

What is recorded here

No castle ever stood at Keltie. The name belongs to a settling tank built in the late 1800s, when water was cleaned before it entered human systems. The real strangeness is that a functional tank became famous enough to enter mythology. Castles are easier to imagine than plumbing, but the tank is the true record.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Keltie Castle as Settling Tank (late 19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
