Keiss Castle, Service Wing stands in Caithness as an unassigned house, stripped of the grand narrative that usually surrounds castle walls. It may have served the estate rather than the laird, a practical wing for kitchens, storage or keepers where the real life of the place happened. The main tower commands attention, but the service wing sustained it, translating pride into heat, food and shelter.
