Keelogenabreena Infants Burial Ground

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Keelogenabreena Infants Burial Ground occupies a narrow northern slope above Lough Corrib, where children may have rested beneath soil marked only by a small circular boundary. The name resists easy translation, preserving a local voice instead of surrendering to English certainty. Distance does not diminish the intimacy of the loss recorded there.
On N-facing hillslope over looking Lough Corrib. This CBG, correctly Caológ na Braona(?), is indicated on OS 6-inch maps as a small enclosed subcircular area (D c. 10m). Not visited. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
