Keeloge Batteries stands as a nineteenth-century artillery fortification built to defend the River Shannon. Its guns once watched the water for dangerous ships, though no records confirm whether they ever fired. The ridge may have smelled of powder and sweat during drills, while ordinary people lived beside the threat.
