This blue commemorative plaque records: 4-28 Nicholas Street. These Georgian Town Houses were built in 1781 to the designs of Joseph Turner, Architect of the Bridgegate. In the 19th Century the terrace was known as 'Pill-Box Promenade' because many of the houses were occupied by Doctors.
Joseph Turner was an architect active in the late 18th century, notable for designing these Georgian townhouses and the Bridgegate; his work reflects the architectural trends of the period and contributed to the urban landscape of the area.
