Johnstone Castle, Lodge stands as a nineteenth-century gate lodge in Renfrewshire, built to mark the entrance rather than hide behind it. Its stones still perform that simple job: they tell a traveller the estate has begun and the rules have changed. Whether it guided carts, carried letters or watched a family leave, the lodge remains the threshold where the ordinary road became someone else's domain.
