This stone commemorative plaque records: On 14th July 1783 and on several subsequent occasions John Wesley preached in this building the first Methodist meeting house in Oxford
John Wesley was a Church of England cleric and evangelist who founded Methodism. He is historically important for his role in shaping the Methodist movement, which emphasized personal faith, social holiness, and scriptural study.
