This blue commemorative plaque records: John Wesley 1703-1791 Founder of Methodism rested at the White Lion Inn (later the Blue Lion) on 18th February 1747. He also preached to a large crowd at the back of a house on Watergate on 9th July 1781 Recorded plaque organisation: Grantham Civic Society.
John Wesley, an Anglican clergyman and evangelist, was the founder of Methodism, significantly influencing Protestant Christianity through his teachings and organizational structure. His visits to various towns, including preaching in Watergate, helped spread Methodist principles across England.
