This blue commemorative plaque records: John Ruskin eminent Victorian intellectual lodged here in 1841 whilst in the care of Dr Jephson. 'The King of the Golden River' was partly written here.
John Ruskin was a prominent art critic, social thinker, and writer who significantly influenced Victorian-era art and architecture criticism; he partially wrote "The King of the Golden River" at this location in 1841.
