John Reve was the last Abbot of Bury St Edmunds, elected in 1513 and ejected during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539; he died in 1540 on the site where his house once stood. His tenure marked the end of monastic life at one of England's most significant religious houses under Henry VIII's reforms.
