What is recorded here

John Mitchel was born at Camnish near Dungiven in County Londonderry on 3 November 1815, the son of a Non-subscribing Presbyterian minister. He later became a militant republican journalist, convicted of treason in 1848 for advocating resistance to landlords during the Great Famine. Though he escaped transportation in 1853, his exile revealed a controversial pro-slavery stance that still shadows his fierce Irish nationalist legacy.
