John Joseph Cantwell

John Joseph Cantwell was born in Limerick, County Limerick, Ireland, on December 1, 1874. He was the eldest of fifteen children, three brothers became priests in California, and one sister became an Ursuline nun in Ireland. He later led Los Angeles for thirty years, becoming its first archbishop in 1936.
