John Flaxman was a prominent neoclassical sculptor and illustrator, best known for his work on the funerary monuments for Horace Walpole and Thomas Gray, and for his contributions to the design of the British Museum. He is considered a key figure in the development of British sculpture in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
