This blue commemorative plaque records: On this site stood the first meeting house of the Rev. John Flavel (1627 - 1691). Persecuted for his puritan beliefs, he became an accomplished scholar, writer, and preacher and a great man of Dartmouth In partnership with South Hams District Council to mark the Millennium Recorded plaque organisation: Dartmouth and Kingswear Society, South Hams District Council.
Rev John Flavel was a prominent Puritan minister persecuted during the 17th century; he is remembered for his influential sermons and writings that significantly contributed to Protestant theology.
