This blue commemorative plaque records: St. Werburgh Street. The whole of the east side of this street was designed and developed between 1895 and 1899 by the Chester architect John Douglas (1829-1911). The carved detail includes a figure of Queen Victoria, placed here to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
John Douglas was a prominent Chester architect active in the late 19th century, known for his significant contributions to the architectural landscape of Chester, including the comprehensive design and development of St. Werburgh Street between 1895 and 1899.
