This black commemorative plaque records: John and Martha Crossley 1772-1837 1775-1854 Founders of John Crossley & Sons, carpet manufacturers at Dean Clough. Parents of John, Joseph and Francis Crossley who developed Crossley's Carpets. They built the adjacent Square Church in 1855 and many other important buildings in Halifax.
