This black commemorative plaque records: Catholic Church. Dedicated to St Charles Borromeo 1538-1584 Archbishop of Milan and Cardinal. Father John Bilburrow, later Bishop of Salford, established this church in 1883 with the help of John & Ellen Sutcliffe Witham of Kentsford. Canon Richard Langtree 1883-1929 purchased the adjoining field and created an outstanding rose garden. Recorded plaque organisation: Grange Civic Society.
Father John Bilburrow, who later became Bishop of Salford, established St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in 1883 with significant support from John and Ellen Sutcliffe Witham; Canon Richard Langtree expanded the church grounds by purchasing an adjacent field and developing a notable rose garden that served the community for decades.
