What is recorded here
This bronze commemorative plaque records: Here dwelt Major Andre A.D. 1770. Recorded plaque organisation: Bath Council.
Major John André was a British Army officer hanged as a spy during the American Revolutionary War after being captured with incriminating documents from Benedict Arnold; his execution made him a symbol of tragic heroism in Britain and a figure of historical intrigue.
