This green commemorative plaque records: The Albion Inn Town's oldest surviving licensed house. Formerly 'The New Inn', a 17th century coaching halt. In 1834 the Tolpuddle Martyrs stopped here en route to transportation to Australia as convicts. Recorded plaque organisation: Wimborne Minster Town Council.

James Loveless, James Brine, Thomas Standfield, John Standfield were among the Tolpuddle Martyrs, agricultural laborers sentenced for swearing a secret oath; their punishment brought attention to trade unionism and workers' rights in 19th century Britain. The Albion Inn is historically significant as a stopover for the Tolpuddle Martyrs en route to their transportation to Australia as convicts.
