This blue commemorative plaque records: James Keir Hardie, 1856‒1915. First Labour MP and First Labour Leader. Campaigner for Women’s suffrage, Workers’ emancipation, Equality and Peace. Cremated at this place on 29th September 1915. Erected by the people of Glasgow to commemorate his achievements on the centenary of his passing. Recorded plaque organisation: Glasgow City Council.
James Keir Hardie was a pioneering British politician and activist who founded the Labour Party in 1900, becoming its first Member of Parliament and leader. He is remembered for his relentless advocacy for workers' rights, women's suffrage, and social equality.
