This brown commemorative plaque records: By this plaque the Emsworth Maritime and Historical Trust commemorates James Duncan Foster (1858-1940). A notable Emsworth shipbuilder and shipowner. His best known ship was the Emsworth built 'Echo', shown at the head of this plaque and in model form in Emsworth Museum. James Duncan Foster (1858-1940) was a prominent shipbuilder and shipowner in Emsworth, known for constructing the 'Echo,' claimed to be the largest sailing vessel ever built in England at 110 feet in length.
