This grey commemorative plaque records: James Braid five times Open Golf Champion from 1901 to 1910 four times match play champion born in this burgh on 6th February 1870 died at Walton Heath on 27th November 1950. He had many opponents but no enemies. We salute his memory.
James Braid was a pioneering Scottish golfer who won five Open Championships between 1901 and 1910, significantly influencing early 20th-century golf.
