This blue commemorative plaque records: J. R. R. Tolkien CBE academic and author lived here between 1924 and 1925. While Reader, later Professor, at the University of Leeds 1920-1925, he collaborated on a new edition of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Tolkien went on to write The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. 1892-1973 Recorded plaque organisation: Leeds Civic Trust.
J. R. R. Tolkien was an Oxford academic and philologist who became internationally renowned for his high fantasy works, including "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings," which have profoundly influenced modern fantasy literature.
