Loch Gorm Castle on Islay is a medieval cruck framed building from the sixteenth or seventeenth century. Wood ribs may have arched across dark rooms where people lived, breathed and feared the sea. The castle still belongs to memory, not to tourist hands.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Islay, Loch Gorm Castle as Castle (medieval), Cruck Framed Building (16th Century) - (17th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Loch Gorm Castle on Islay is believed to have been built by the MacDougall clan in the 16th century, later held by the Macleans. It is remembered for its strategic location and as an example of early cruck-framed architecture in the Hebrides.
