Crannog islands in County Fermanagh are water prisons and gardens at once: clay, reed, firelight, and the lake keeping every crack in the wall. Build a room on one and the lake becomes a citizen, entering through gaps, shaping the roofline, measuring the courage of the people inside. Doochrock may have been a small defiance of that much water, an island made human by nails, smoke, and the willingness to live where drowning is possible.
