What is recorded here
Crannog islands are ancient water gardens where people built homes on frozen lake beds. This hidden point in County Antrim may have been one such island, a small world of wood, fire and risk surrounded by endless water. The name itself is uncertain, but the shape of the story is clear: human hands reached into the wet dark and made a place for life.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as ISLAND; possibly CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
