This green commemorative plaque records: Rev. Isaac Benson 1795-1864 Born in Windermere and appointed in 1823 to serve under the patronage of Thomas Hustler as Vicar of Acklam and village shcoolmaster. From 1840, after becoming responsible for St. Hilda's Parish, he ministered for the next twenty-four years as the first Vicar of Middlesbrough. Recorded plaque organisation: Middlesbrough Heritage.
Rev. Isaac Benson served as the first Vicar of Middlesbrough from 1840 and was instrumental in providing spiritual guidance during the town’s rapid industrial growth; he also contributed to education as a village schoolmaster.
