Castlebay Harbour holds the wreck of a twentieth-century lugger named Irrawaddy. The ship broke apart on Barra's coast, leaving steel and timber scattered across the seabed. What the crew carried, where they bound, and why the sea took them have all vanished. Only the name and the harbour remain, waiting for someone to ask what the water kept.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Irrawaddy: Castlebay Harbour, Barra, Sea of the Hebrides as Lugger (20th Century).
