Inverallochy Castle rose for Sir William Cummyn around 1504 as a wedge-shaped fortress where grass now swallows most of its stone anger. Its surviving keep wall still stands beside a courtyard raised above the earth, preserving the shape of a home that stopped fearing gods and started fearing neighbours. The missing rooms do not vanish; they wait inside the mound for someone to imagine the laughter, hunger and darkness that once filled them.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Inverallochy Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Inverallochy Castle was built by the Clan MacDougall in the 13th or 14th century and is remembered for its strategic role in the medieval history of Argyll. It is associated with the legendary "Fair Maid of Inverallochy" and is a notable example of early Scottish castle architecture.
