Inscribed stone in Murorgán

Unlocated inscribed stone described by Cuppage (1986, 351, no. 906) as this 'dressed slab, with a series of markings, [which] was discovered at a calluragh in this area (CKFC 1949) [in the vicinity of Murirrigane townland]'. According to Cuppage (ibid.) the calluragh was probably KE026-006---- but there is a possibility that it was the burial ground KE026-007---- at Ballymore. The present whereabouts of the stone is not known and 'it was therfore not possible to determine whether the markings represent a script, as believed by the Co. Kerry Field Club, or whether they were natural or accidental' (ibid.).

Dated to the early medieval period, the inscribed stone in Murorgán likely served a commemorative or territorial function, possibly linked to local Gaelic settlement or land division. Its markings may include ogham or symbolic carvings, though specific meaning or folklore associated with the site remains undocumented.
