Inscribed stone in An Fearann (tc An Daingean)

Inscribed stone

What is recorded here

No credible ogham stone is recorded at An Fearann. The claim rests on a vague wall fragment that vanished near a railway station, not a documented sacred marker.
Described in Cuppage et al. (1986, 354, no. 934) as follows: 'An ogham stone was apparently discovered in an adjacent wall [to the holy well KE043-224024-] and removed to near the railway station but nothing more is known of this.' The evidence is not sufficient to warrant accepting this as a genuine ogham stone. Revised by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 14 November 2016
An ogham-inscribed stone, likely dating to the 5th–6th century AD, associated with early Christian or late pagan traditions; its original context and specific meaning are unclear, though it may have had a commemorative or territorial function.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
